Long Term Ashmore Capability – Vessel Build

Long Term Ashmore Capability – Vessel Build

AST Oceanics was awarded the contract to build and deliver a vessel to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Services for use as a patrol vessel in the Ashmore Reef region.

Project Summary

Following award to AST Oceanics as prime contractor in 2012, work commenced on building a replacement vessel for the Ashmore Guardian patrol vessel. Having provided the Ashmore Guardian and her crew to ACBPS since 2007, AST Oceanics had substantial experience operating a vessel in transit to and around the Ashmore Reef region. This experience was reinvested into the design and specification of the new vessel; the Thaiyak. The 40 metre Thaiyak was delivered to ACBPS in June 2014 and has since met or exceeded operational capability days in every year of duty.
