AST Oceanics provided a patrol vessel, a resupply vessel and full marine crew to Australian Customs and Border Protection Services for their Ashmore Reef protection responsibilities.
Ashmore Island Customs and Border Protection Vessel
Project Summary
Following the success of the Triton project with ACBPS, AST Oceanics was awarded a contract in 2007 for the supply of the marine solution to effect border and environmental protection services to Ashmore Reef and the surrounding waters. An ex-cray fishing boat, the Roper-K, was aquired and underwent significant conversion works to make fit for task. This vessel was renamed the Ashmore Guardian. A supply vessel, the Oceaneer, was also acquired and provided the most effective and efficient solution of transporting personnel, provisions and sundry out to the reef. The long term contract was extended several times and eventually ceased in December 2013 in anticipation of the new Ashmore Capability vessel – the Thaiyak – being delivered.
