ASTO Completes Thaiyak’s 10-Year Refit Successfully

Apr 16, 2025

In mid-2024, AST Oceanics (ASTO)  completed an extensive 10-year refit of ABFC  Thaiyak, marking a significant milestone in the vessel’s In-Service-Support (ISS) Contract. This three-month long major Depot Level Maintenance  (DLM) activity resulted  in an impressive 98% completion rate of the Main Work List, with an equally high completion rate  for emergent tasks.

At the heart of ASTO’s achievement is our experienced and highly skilled technical team,  consisting of professionals who have developed strong bonds while delivering the Thaiyak ISS Contract since its inception when we built and provided the vessel to ABF in 2014.

Leading the current technical workforce for the DLM was our Fleet Technical Manager, Vikas Gupta, supported by our Technical Superintendent, Anuj Sharma, and our Project Engineer, Ankur Purwar – all of whom are seasoned, internationally certified “blue water” marine engineers.  Working in close collaboration with Thaiyak’s ABF  Ship Manager, the DLM technical outcomes exceeded expectations, achieving exceptional results.

Behind the scenes, ASTO’s Support Team, led by Business Systems Manager Cindy Wells, and supported by our Accountant,  Brooke Wylie,  and Support Coordinator,  Michelle Sesko, worked diligently to ensure the smooth administration of the DLM. The support team managed a very significant financial and administrative work load, involving rigorous invoicing and reporting work activities, whilst concurrently overseeing the company’s ISO and DISP accredited management systems and associated business software systems.

Working together with ABF, as our valued Client, ASTO’s  collective efforts coupled with a strong work ethic,  has consistently delivered strong results for the vessel over the last 11 years;  which is a testament to the commitment, drive and professionalism of our team.
